Devlog #1: Laying the Foundation
October 18, 2025The Who: About Us
Hello everyone! I’m Jade (but you can also call me 33), the founder of Ignis Solaris Studio. We're a new indie studio based in Toronto, Canada. For now, it’s mostly a solo-dev journey, but I’m incredibly lucky to have the unconditional support of my family and friends.
The What: Our Game
Our first project is Back to Thawing Valley (it's a working title for now!).
We really want to create a truly cozy game, a kind of psychological sanctuary. It’s a simulation game where we hope you can find a moment of peace and calm. Our goal is to create a space where you can enjoy a quiet life, and build gentle, fulfilling relationships with nature, the animals, and the other townsfolk.
The Why: This Devlog
We're launching this devlog to share our journey with you, right from the start. We believe in building transparently and want to keep a public record of our progress (it keeps us honest!).
Most of all, we'd love for you to get that "development-rearing" feeling (养成感) – watching the game grow and evolve with us from its very first sparks.
This Week's Progress: Building the Hub
Before writing this post, our main focus was on the game itself. We’ve already finished the core Game Design Document and a vertical slice to prove our concept.
We’re building it with the Godot Engine. We chose Godot because it’s open-source, and there's a really special, non-utilitarian, and beautiful feeling in that.
With that groundwork done, we took the next big step: formally registering Ignis Solaris Studio Inc. and (finally!) building this official website. From now on, this site will be our central hub for all updates. We're also busy structuring our GitHub repositories.
What's Next?
Our goal for the next two weeks is to dive deep into player customization. We'll be focusing on building the initial character creation system—specifically implementing color palette swaps and the framework for changing outfits. Alongside that, we'll continue to refine the game's main map.
Join the Journey
Thank you for reading our very first post! We welcome all feedback and suggestions. You can follow our technical progress on GitHub or join our community on Discord to chat.
And if you’re a fellow indie developer just starting out (like me), please don’t hesitate to reach out. Let’s share our experiences!
